About Me

Two journalists have been killed in Ukraine while they were travelling in a vehicle involved in the same attack which left a British journalist seriously injured.

Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, who was an Irish citizen but based in London, and Ukrainian producer and fixer Oleksandra Kuvshynova died in Horenka on Monday.

It is thought the pair were travelling in the same vehicle as 39-year-old British journalist Benjamin Hall, who also works for Fox News, when it was hit by incoming fire.

Mr Hall, a married father-of-three from London, was hit in both legs by shrapnel and remains in hospital.

Fox News Media chief executive Suzanne Scott told staff in a memo today that Mr Zakrzewski covered 'nearly every international story' for the US network from to to Syria, and praised his 'bravery, professionalism and work ethic'.

She added that his 'passion and talent as a journalist were unmatched', and he worked as a photographer, engineer, editor and producer while out in the field.

Fox news journalist Lucas Tomlinson shared a picture of himself with Pierre and Oleksandra, who also goes by Sasha, on social media as he paid tribute to his colleagues.

He said the last message he received from Pierre read: 'I will effort to get as much of this on TV to help Ukrainians in every way possible.

Keep Smiling. Pierre.'

Ms Scott also said that Mr Zakrzewski - whom Fox said was based in London, and leaves a wife called Michelle Бесплатные фильмы онлайн без регистрации GidOnline - w.gidonline.lu played a key role in getting Fox's Afghan freelance associates and their families out of the country after the US withdrawal.

Mr Zakrzewski was awarded the 'Unsung Hero' prize at Fox's annual employee Spotlight Awards last December 'in recognition of his invaluable work', she added.

Ms Scott said: 'Pierre was a war zone photographer who covered nearly every international story for Fox News from Iraq to Afghanistan to Syria during his long tenure with us.

His passion and talent as a journalist were unmatched.'

She also wrote: 'His talents were vast and there wasn't a role that he didn't jump in to help with in the field - from photographer to engineer to editor to producer - and he did it all under immense pressure with tremendous skill.'

Tributes described Ms Kuvshynova as 'vibrant and full of life' and friends and colleagues said she was brilliant at her job.

Fox News Senior Field Producer Yonat Friling wrote on Twitter: 'In yesterday's attack near Kyiv, we have lost a beautiful brave woman - Oleksandra Kuvshinova - Sasha.

'She loved music and she was funny and kind.

She was 24 years old. She worked with our team for the past month and did a brilliant job.

'May her memory be a blessing.'

NBC's Atia Abawi wrote: 'She was a young Ukrainian journalist sharing the story of her country's invasion. Our friends who worked with her said she was vibrant & full of life.

I can't even imagine the pain her parents are going through right now.'

Tributes have poured in for Mr Zakrzewski from Fox News colleagues, who described him as 'an absolute legend' who 'never stopped wanting to help'.

Micheál Martin, Taoiseach of Ireland, tweeted: 'Deeply disturbed and saddened by the killing of Irish citizen and journalist Pierre Zakrzewski and one of his colleagues today.

My thoughts are with their families, friends and fellow journalists. We condemn this indiscriminate and immoral war by Russia on Ukraine.'

Fox anchor John Roberts said today it was 'horrible news to report', and that Mr Zakrzewski was an 'absolute treasure'.

His fellow Fox anchor Bill Hemmer said the cameraman 'was an absolute legend at this network. And his loss is devastating.'

And Fox foreign correspondent Trey Yingst said: 'I don't know what to say. Pierre was as good as the come.

Selfless. Brave. Passionate. I'm so sorry this happened to you.'

Fox weather reporter Max Gorden added: 'Gutting news. My thoughts are with Pierre Zakrzewski's family. By all accounts Pierre was an incredible photographer and great human. Wishing safety for all the crews risking their lives in Ukraine.'

And Fox security correspondent Jen Griffin added: 'Such a fine man. Such a good friend.

Such a fantastic war photographer and so much more. RIP Pierre Zakrzewski.'

He is the second journalist killed in Ukraine in two days. Ex-New York Times reporter Brent Renaud died on Sunday after Russian forces opened fire on his vehicle.

Meanwhile Mr Hall, who has worked for the New York-based network since 2015 and has a wife and three daughters in London, was today being treated in intensive care.

Ms Scott said in an earlier memo that bosses have a 'minimal level of details' and teams on the ground were working to find out more on what happened to Mr Hall.

White House press secretary told another Fox reporter in Washington DCyesterday that 'our thoughts, the president's thoughts, our administration's thoughts are with him (Mr Hall), his family and all of you at Fox News.'

Mr Hall is a Washington-based correspondent and an experienced foreign reporter who has previously worked in the likes of Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia and Gaza.

Irina Venediktova, Ukraine's prosecutor general, said in a Facebook post that a British journalist had received shrapnel wounds to both legs and was in intensive care.

She did not identify the journalist but posted a picture of a US congressional press pass belonging to a Fox News reporter.

Ms Venediktova added that the reporter was in intensive care and was not near a military facility at the time of the blast.

Benjamin Hall, 39, has been reporting for Fox News from Ukraine on the Russian invasion
